Data Trust
Electoral Data Management & Analytics
The Client
Data Trust stands at the forefront of electoral data management and analytics, serving as a pivotal infrastructure provider within the voter data ecosystem.
With over a decade of innovation and a commitment to excellence, Data Trust offers unparalleled data quality and cutting-edge tools that cater to a wide range of political campaigns and advocacy groups. The organization has a history of success, supporting thousands of campaigns at both federal and local levels, which culminated in significant electoral victories during the 2024 cycle.
Founded in 2011, Data Trust has evolved to manage an extensive national voter file alongside a vast array of consumer data points — over 300 million individuals and 2,500+ unique data attributes. This rich database supports a variety of stakeholders in crafting targeted, data-driven strategies that are not only cost-effective but also secure. Data Trust’s comprehensive services include data access, enrichment, foundation, and activation, making it an indispensable partner in achieving precise audience targeting and campaign results.
The Challenge
Data Trust faced significant challenges with their digital presence, primarily due to an outdated website that did not align with the sophistication or the high-quality nature of their data solutions.
The website’s visual aesthetic, which included dark colors, video backgrounds, large icons of various styles, and serif typefaces, were failing to project the modern, technical appearance necessary to reflect their advanced data management capabilities. This visual misalignment made it difficult for Data Trust to distinguish itself from competitors, as it did not accurately or effectively showcase their unique solutions or the cutting-edge nature of their offerings.
Specifically, the website suffered from several functional and structural deficiencies:
These challenges hindered Data Trust’s ability to leverage their website as a tool for communication and client engagement, necessitating a comprehensive overhaul to enhance their online presence and functionality.
The Solution
In the fall of 2024, Pugh & Tiller responded to Data Trust’s needs with a visual branding refresh and comprehensive redesign of their website.
This extensive project addressed each identified challenge, enhancing the organization’s online presence. The overhaul included updates to the visual brand, refining the copy and messaging to better align with Data Trust’s objectives, and improving navigation and usability to ensure a more user-friendly experience. Additionally, the initiative encompassed website creation and content management, laying a solid foundation for Data Trust to effectively engage their audience and manage their digital content.
Visual Branding & Infographics
• •
Pugh & Tiller revitalized Data Trust’s branding by enhancing their existing style. This refresh included increasing white space for a cleaner look and selecting modern sans-serif typefaces that underscore the company’s forward-thinking approach.
Furthermore, Pugh & Tiler introduced detailed, animated SVG illustrations and infographics. These dynamic visuals played a crucial role in conveying the complexities of Data Trust’s offerings and demonstrating how their integrated solutions work together seamlessly. By animating elements of the SVGs, Pugh & Tiller were able to quickly and effectively illustrate the interaction between services, enhancing user understanding and engagement through visual storytelling.
Responsive Website, Information Architecture & Content Management
• •
The Pugh & Tiller team redesigned the website’s layout to serve as a robust framework that guides users through Data Trust’s offerings. First, templates we provided to Data Trust for creating copy on all page and post types, which included detailed guidelines for how to craft titles, subheads, body copy, and SEO metadata complete with possible subject matter and word counts for each. Pugh & Tiller overhauled the category names, structure, and navigation to make it simpler for users to find and recognize the content they were interested in. This involved clearly differentiating between types of content such as “AB/EV Data,” “Voter File Updates,” “Voter History Data,” and “State Voter Projections” (which we renamed to “Battleground Briefs”) all of which fell under the umbrella of what we called “Critical Data Updates”.
Pugh & Tiller then developed a new WordPress website that not only enhanced aesthetic appeal and navigation but also included effective calls to action. In addition, the backend was designed to facilitate the easy creation and management of content. This solution provided specific templates for each post type, which sped up content publishing, and allowed Data Trust’s team to populate content dynamically across the website. This streamlined approach significantly improved their ability to maintain and update their website efficiently.
